Corfu

Corfu Town is characterized by the Venetian point, but also many English and French influences. It is a cosmopolitan city that exudes a sense of nobility, with the main attractions of the big square Esplanade, which is the largest square in the Balkans, the Old and New Castle, City Hall (Theatre San Giacomo), the Cannon, Mon Repos, but the Museums and Post-Byzantine history.

Perhaps the most famous attraction is the islet in front of Cannon, connected with it through a small strip of land upon which stands the church of Our Lady of Blachernae and the famous Mouse. On this small island is a small church of the Pantocrator 11th or 12th century. Also noteworthy buildings are the Palace of Michael and George, one of the finest palaces of Georgian style that left the British rule. Traditional dishes of Corfu cuisine is "pastitsada", the "sofrito" and "bourdeto." Corfu town has a population of 28,185 inhabitants (census 2001) and is one of the oldest cities in Greece. Patron is St. Spyridon Trimythountos the afthoro relic which hosted the homonymous church, which is one of the most special present.
